Location and Attractions

When you stay at the Stony Point Lake House, you'll enjoy all the outdoor activities the north woods offers, including boating, snowmobiling, hunting, fishing, hiking, biking, and snow and water skiing. Lake Shishebogama is one of the Lakeland area's most coveted lakes, with limited public access to over 700 acres of class A fishing waters containing abundant crappie, walleye, bass, pan fish and pike. Adjoining Gunlock Lake contains over 400 acres of the area's best musky waters. In the summer, you'll leave the hustle and bustle of the Minocqua chain behind and enjoy all the peace and serenely of Lake Shishebogama, where jet skis and water skiing are not allowed after 8 PM.

Hikers and outdoor enthusiasts will enjoy the Northern Highland-American Legion State Forest and the many recreation opportunities it affords. Bicyclists will enjoy access to many local road and trail options, including miles of scenic paved roads with little traffic and many logging roads on public properties. Canoists and kayakers have many local options, including the put in point for one of the most popular day trips on the Tomahawk River just two miles from the house. The nearest landing in the Willow Flowage Scenic Waters Area is a scenic 20 minute drive away, offering a remote big water experience for exploring and fishing.

Hunters will enjoy access to literally thousands of acres of prime grouse and deer hunting land within minutes of the house, including the Chequamegon National Forest, State Owned Lands, and thousands of acres of paper company lands and other private properties managed for public access through state managed forest programs. Ducks flourish in fall, and one of the best blinds on the lake is on the state owned island right out in front of the house.

The Minocqua Winterpark and Nordic Center is only 10 minutes away, offering the midwest's finest network of groomed cross country ski trails, day lodge and numerous events for the whole family. The the main snowmobile trail connecting Minocqua, the Squirrel Lake area and Lake of the Torches Casino goes right by on the lake.
